Any weight loss journey has to start somewhere, and where that start is will depend on the person. In our post on ‘Getting the Best Weight Loss Tips’, we talked about a few simple, healthy tips for losing unwanted weight. You can do anything from trimming down your calorie consumption to trying water therapy, or even cut your meals into smaller meals throughout your day.

When it comes to weight loss, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution— you have to listen to your body and find what works for you. However, there are some things that everyone can do to make it easier, and that includes choosing to eat healthy. Processed foods and junk food are all high in fat and sodium, which can make weight loss an uphill battle. Turning to healthier fare is a better idea, and if you’re not sure what to look for, here are a few delicious, low-calorie foods that can spice up your diet.

Yogurt

Yogurt is a pretty popular option for weight loss management, and it’s not hard to see why. Like many fermented foods, yogurt is packed with probiotics that keep your gut healthy. A healthy gut means that your body is able to metabolize food and absorb nutrients properly.

Yogurt is also pretty filling, making it a great, lower-calorie alternative to a lot of other snack foods. According to Eat This, Not That!, yogurt’s enzyme inhibitors and amino acids even help you keep weight off, so losing weight is just so much easier.

Wheatgrass Smoothies

Smoothies are a quick, healthy, and delicious way to make use of whole foods and maximize their nutritional value. As long as you have a blender or juicer, you can just throw a few ingredients in and pour it into a tumbler for drinking on the go.

While there are tons of ingredients that you can include in your smoothie, Brightcore recommends trying wheatgrass powder. Wheatgrass is incredibly healthy and low-calorie, making it a top choice for when you want to make the most of your smoothie’s nutritional value.

Dark Chocolate

Chocolate doesn’t seem like much of a healthy snack, and sometimes it really isn’t. Standard milk chocolate offerings are packed with sugar and fat, which is good enough reason to keep it off of your snack list. But dark chocolate is a different story.

Everyday Health says that dark chocolate is packed with flavonoids for protecting against free radicals, and is also a great appetite suppresser. Eating dark chocolate signals to the brain that you’re full, which is definitely a plus if you’re trying to cut down on calories. Most experts recommend dark chocolate with 70% cacao or more for optimum results.

Veggie Chips

One of the oft-mentioned downsides of healthy food is that they’re simply not fun. After all, salty snacks do taste good, and there’s no harm in giving in to the craving every once in a while. While you can’t always avoid the urge to enjoy junk food, you can redirect it to something much healthier. That something healthier is usually veggie chips.

Not all veggie chips are created equal, so it’s important to know how to pick the right one. Nutritionist Ashley Koff has a few tips for finding the veggie chip that actually fits in your diet. Be sure to pick a brand that makes use of actual vegetables, is low-salt or unsalted, and pay attention to the nutritional values. Although it isn’t bad to indulge every once in a while, you should still make sure it’s worth it.
